Biden Domestic And Foreign Policy Implosion

Do you know what an implosion is? Let me show you.

That is what is happening to Joe Biden. Let’s start with the domestic implosion taking place because of the flood of illegal immigrants. Texas has deployed the National Guard to its border and is preventing the Federal Government from cutting the barb wire walls the Guard has erected. The Biden Administration sought judicial relief with the Supreme Court, which decided by a 5 to 4 majority to back the Biden Administration. Governor Abbot of Texas responded, “Fuck you.”

Texas is relying on the Constitution, which gives States the right to defend themselves if invaded, even if the Federal Government refuses to act.

Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3

The Texas Guard continues to put up razor wire to hinder illegal migrants from entering the United States.

Abbot is not alone. Twenty two other States weighed in on Abbot’s side. Here’s the map.

. A majority of Americans are pissed off about the Federal Government’s refusal to enforce immigration law. Hell, even Democrat Mayors are crying about this:

Immigration will be one of the deciding issues in the November Presidential election and public opinion is backing Trump, not Biden. If the Biden Administration decides to confront Texas over Governor Abbott’s policies to staunch the flood of migrants it is likely to ignite a national crisis that will be damaging to Biden’s hopes of snagging a second term.

Now to the foreign policy front. Biden and his feckless team are being humiliated by the Houthis. Despite launching a series of bombings inside Yemen, the Houthis are showing no sign of retreating. In fact, they defeated a U.S. Navy effort to escort two container ships through the troubled straits leading into the Red Sea:

“The US Navy has turned both ships around and is escorting them back to the Gulf of Aden.”

Maersk Line Ltd said it was suspending transits in the region until further notice because of the escalation of risk.

“While en route, both ships reported seeing explosions close by and the US Navy accompaniment also intercepted multiple projectiles. The crew, ship and cargo are safe and unharmed.”

While the decision to transit remains at the discretion of individual vessels and companies, it is recommended that US-flag and US-owned commercial vessels remain North of 18N in the Red Sea or East of 46E in the Gulf of Aden until further notice,” the agency said.

Yemen’s position is clear. Any ship headed to Israel will be stopped. Any ship owned by Israel or the United States or the United Kingdom will be stopped. All other ships may pass.

The Biden Administration is flailing in its attempt to stop the Houthis. The world outside the West is seeing the United States as a paper tiger or, if you prefer a fairy tale version, the big bad wolf. Biden is huffing and puffing but cannot blow the Houthi brick house down.

I’m writing this late Thursday night on the East Coast of the United States. By the time most folks read this post, the International Court of Justice is expected to issue a preliminary injunction declaring Israel’s military operation in Gaza is a genocide and that it must cease its military operations. Israel and the United States will ignore that ruling, but its effect will be the further isolation of both countries and will ratchet up the pressure on the Biden Administration to rein in the Israelis.

I think the Biden team now recognizes that it has a major domestic political problem on its hands. While it is true that wealthy Jewish donors continue to give Biden cash, it also is true that Biden is being relentlessly heckled on the campaign trail by Palestinian supporters. Biden is very thin-skinned and may step up pressure on Israel in order to put an end to the protests. He is being regularly lambasted at campaign events and it is creating a image problem of a weak, confused old man that is not going to play well in November.

U.S. Prepping To Abandon Bases In Eastern Syria And Turn To China

The leaks have started and that almost always is a great indicator about an impending shift in U.S. foreign policy. In this case it concerns Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey. The United States has been engaged in a decade long military adventure in Syria. It started out in 2014 as an ostensible mission by special ops forces to find, fix and finish ISIS (that is military speak for killing the “terrorists”), but it evolved into an insurgent support operation to assist the Kurds in their battles against Syria and Turkey. Oh yeah. Almost forgot. The U.S. military personnel primary mission was to protect the Conoco oil facility on Kurdish territory. It is all about the oil. Looks like there is a change on the horizon.

One of the U.S. military contractors employed as a social media influencer, OSINTdefender, posted the following today:

This coincided with a Foreign Policy piece by Charles Lister, who is frantically waving the the continuing threat of ISIS (they are like zombies, can’t eradicate them) in a desperate plea to stay in place in Syria. He notes that the Hamas Oct 7 attack in Israel has changed the Middle East calculus:

it should not come as a surprise that the Biden administration is reconsidering its military priorities in the region.

It should be cause for significant concern, however, that this could involve a full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria. While no definitive decision has been made to leave, four sources within the Defense and State departments said the White House is no longer invested in sustaining a mission that it perceives as unnecessary. Active internal discussions are now underway to determine how and when a withdrawal may take place.

Notwithstanding the catastrophic effect that a withdrawal would have on U.S. and allied influence over the unresolved and acutely volatile crisis in Syria, it would also be a gift to the Islamic State. While significantly weakened, the group is in fact primed for a resurgence in Syria, if given the space to do so.

This is total bullshit. ISIS is not primed to do anything. ISIS is an excuse for keeping U.S. forces in a place.

Waving the Islamic State boogeyman in front of the American audience is predicated on the ignorance of the American public. Islamic State folks want to overthrow Bashir Assad. So do we. Islamic State fanatics hate Iran and Iran would like to destroy them. So I guess that makes us allies of the Islamic State extremists when it comes to hating Iran. Who the hell are we pretending to fight? That is the problem behind allowing the U.S. military presence in Syria to continue. We are illegally occupying Syrian territory.

U.S. and Israeli attacks on Hezbollah and IRGC targets over the past month have sparked a relentless barrage of drones, rockets and ballistic missiles on the U.S. outposts in Syria and northern Iraq. The Commander of CENTCOM and the Joint Chiefs of Staff now realize this is not a sustainable mission. At a minimum the 900 U.S. soldiers manning these Middel East versions of Fort Apache, are targets waiting for a missile strike. If the United States decides to launch a direct attack on Iran, which means inside Iran, then the survivability of these bases/outposts are in question.

I do not discount the possibility that the decision to close down these bases could be in anticipation of an eventual U.S. military strike on Iran. But I think it is a genuine effort to reduce the profile when these soldiers are not carrying out a critical, essential mission. And there is something else driving the decision.

Staff officers in U.S. Central Command and U.S. Indopacom Command are watching a massive political battle unfold pitting CENTCOM’s Air Force component, CENTAF, against INDOPACOM’s Air Force counterpart, PACAF.

The phrase of the day is “Great Power Competition.” It is the new hotness, the top issue, and it’s all China, China, China. The four star generals in the respective theater commands are duking it out over realigning forces. INDOPACOM wants as many air assets as possible on the table to be prepared to fight China. CENTCOM is insisting it absolutely needs the aircraft and re-fuelers in order to stop the Houthis from shuttering Israel’s ports. Word is that INDOPACOM has the upper hand.

It is the more Cow Bell strategy. If you think that wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Yemen, with a potential blow up on the Iran front, are sufficient to keep the Defense establishment happy, you are dead ass wrong. We need more Cow Bell.

I also think it is time for Country Joe and the Fish to update the lyrics from Vietnam to China. It has been 55 years. More Cow Bell.

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel Urges Nikki Haley to Quit Race; Says Message From Voters is the Party Needs to “Unite Around Our Eventual Nominee” Donald Trump

While not explicitly saying she should drop out, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel urged former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to drop out of the Republican presidential race Tuesday night, saying she sees ‘no math and path’ for Haley to win the GOP nomination over President Donald Trump and that she should “reflect” on her candidacy. McDaniel made her remarks in an interview on Fox News, saying the message from voters is the party needs to “unite around our eventual nominee which is gonna be Donald Trump.”

Haley suffered her second straight double digit loss to Trump in New Hampshire Tuesday night. Last week Haley placed a distant third to Trump in the Iowa caucus.

Haley vowed Tuesday night to remain in the race.

The next GOP votes that award delegates are the Nevada caucus on February 8 in which Haley is not on the ballot and the South Carolina primary on February 24 where Haley is trailing Trump by 40 points in a recent poll pf the state conducted by Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio.

Haley has 15 fundraisers scheduled over the next month.

McDaniel, “I’m looking at the map and the path going forward and I don’t see it for Nikki Haley. I think she’s run a great campaign. But I do think there is a message that’s coming out from the voters which is very clear: ‘We need to unite around our eventual nominee which is gonna be Donald Trump.’ And we need to make sure we beat Joe Biden…”

Complete interview:

When asked if Trump should consider Haley for vice president, without saying yes or no McDaniel said the party needs to appeal beyond its Republican base, mentioning independents in New Hampshire, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio, but added that the veep pick should be someone who can be president and someone the president can trust.

Neocon Nikki Haley Wins Dixville Notch, New Hampshire in Midnight Vote — Secures All Six Votes in Small Town That Unanimously Backed Biden in 2020

Sebastien St-Jean/AFP/Getty Images

The tiny township of Dixville Notch once again upheld its long-standing tradition as the first town in New Hampshire to vote in the primaries, with all six registered voters casting their ballots in favor of neocon Nikki Haley.

This tiny town, consisting of four Republicans and two independents, gathered in the cozy living room of Tillotson House, a temporary venue due to ongoing renovations at the Balsams Resort, usually the voting venue, according to AP.

Nikki Haley expressed her gratitude and excitement upon hearing the results: “A great start to a great day in New Hampshire,” she said. “Thank you, Dixville Notch!”

During the 2016 GOP Primary, the town’s votes were divided between John Kasich and Donald Trump, with Kasich narrowly leading 3-2.

Then, the 2020 election saw the town unanimously supporting Joe Biden.

The result from Dixville Notch is not necessarily indicative of the overall outcome of the primaries.

A poll taken by Insider Advantage after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination Sunday afternoon shows President Trump increasing his lead over former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley among likely New Hampshire GOP primary voters, 62 percent to 35 percent.

The New Hampshire primary is this Tuesday and is open to Republicans and “undeclared” voters. It has been reported about 3,500 Democrats switched to “undeclared” before the October 6, 2023 deadline, making them eligible to vote in the GOP primary.

The Republican field has thinned this month with Trump gaining endorsements from former rivals Ohio businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott (SC), North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and DeSantis. Haley was endorsed by former candidate former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) endorsed Haley and has campaigned with her across the state.

press release by Insider Advantage on the New Hampshire poll includes the observations that “undeclared” voters are not a factor in the race and that Trump immediately picked up support from DeSantis voters on Sunday that put him over 60 percent.

Donald Trump’s Path To Re-Election Stronger With Desantis Exit — What To Expect In The New Hampshire Primary

This tells you everything you need to know about NeoCon Nikki

I’m highlighting the Nikki Haley cap, which can be yours if you kick in some bucks for her pitiful campaign. That cap summarizes her campaign. Just to be clear. I am not endorsing Nikki nor do I think she would make a decent President. She’s loathsome and unprincipled. The cap says it all — this campaign is about her, not America.

Look at Trump’s campaign hat.

Trump 2024 Hat

Yes. He prominently features his name but also reiterates the message of 2016 — Make America Great Again. I recognize that anyone who runs for President is not lacking in ego. But Trump, unlike Haley, is hammering on the need to reverse the visible decline in America. Nikki is part of the John McCain, Lindsey Graham crowd who relish involving the United States in foreign wars. Trump, despite all of his faults, still has a pragmatic streak and recognizes that the United States must negotiate with other countries, including Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.

With Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy out of the race and endorsing Trump, it is safe to say that Trump will secure the nomination — jail or no jail. Nikki Haley is likely to make a strong showing in New Hampshire because it is an open primary. That means that Democrats and Independents who will vote for Joe Biden can cross over and vote for her. That is likely to happen. Keep in mind these numbers. In the 2020 Primary Trump secured 129,734 votes, which represented 84% of the vote. In 2015 Trump won 34% of Republican voters with 100,406 ballots cast for him.

The unknown is how motivated are Democrats to come out in force and vote for Haley. Even if they do it will not make a difference in subsequent contests. I think the Trump camp welcomes the challenge. Getting him out on the campaign trail and interacting with voters builds enthusiasm. All the anti-Trumpers have is their hatred of Trump. That ship has sailed. A majority of Americans, and I am including Democrats in this calculation, are increasingly alarmed by the flood of illegal migrants and the soaring deaths from drug overdoses thanks to the influx of fentanyl.

The Democrat vote is going to be split three ways — those who support Joe Biden, those who back Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the yet unnamed “savior” of the No Labels crowd. The No Labels folks genuinely believe they will peel off more Trump voters than Biden voters. I am not buying it.

What do you think?

A Plea To End The War In Ukraine

I do not know Maria Mateiciuc, but she claims she recently visited Ukraine and presents a persuasive case about the desperate situation Ukraine is facing. She has a X (formerly Twitter) account and appears to be a legit person. I do not think she is a bot or someone hired to tell a tragic story. She posted what she says is an image of her passport from her recent trip to Ukraine. Read her post. What do you think?

I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends. Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie. The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine “winning” this war.

– By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone.

– Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail.

– In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants are mostly absent of men.

– The few men who remain are terrified of leaving their homes for fear of being kidnapped into conscription. Some have resorted to begging friends to break their legs to avoid service.

– Army search parties take place early in the morning, when men leave their homes to go to work. They ambush and kidnap them off the streets and within 3-4 hours they get listed in the army and taken away straight to the front lines with minimal or no training at all; it is “a death sentence.”

– It’s getting worse every day. Where I was staying, a dentist had just been taken by security forces on his way to work, leaving behind two small children. Every day, 3-5 dead bodies keep arriving from the front lines.

– Mothers and wives fight tooth and nail with the armed forces, beg and plead not to have their men taken away. They try bribing, which sometimes works, but most of the time they are met with physical violence and death threats.

– The territory celebrated as having been “won back” from Russia has been reduced to rubble and is uninhabitable. Regardless, there is no one left to live there and displaced families will likely never return. – They see the way the war has been reported, at home and abroad. It’s a “joke” and “propaganda.” They say: “Look around: is this winning?”.

– Worse, some have been hoaxed into believing that once Ukrainians forces are exhausted, American soldiers will come in to replace them and “win the war”. There is no ambiguity in these people. The war was for nothing – a travesty. The outcome always was, and is, clear. The people are hopeless, utterly destroyed, and living in an unending nightmare.  They are pleading for an end, any end – most likely the same “peace” that could have been achieved two years ago.

In their minds, they have already lost, for their sons, fathers and husbands are gone, and their country has been destroyed. There is no “victory” that can change that.  Make no mistake, they are angry with Putin. But they are also angry with Zelensky and the West.

They have lost everything, worst of all, hope and faith, and cannot comprehend why Zelensky wishes to continue the current trajectory, the one of human devastation.

I didn’t witness the war; but what I saw was absolutely heart-breaking.

Shame on the people, regardless of their intentions, who have supported this war. And shame on the media for continuing to lie about it.

She is absolutely right about the media and political leaders in the West lying about the reality of Ukraine’s military situation on the ground and the public mood in Ukraine’s cities west of the Dnieper River. There is a report today that Russia has made significant progress in capturing Avdeevka:

As a result of an unexpected attack, the Russians broke through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the southern outskirts of Avdiivka. In a few hours, the Russians managed to cover several kilometers and enter the central part of the city. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are retreating in a decentralized manner in the north, in the direction of the chemical plant, which increases the risk for individual units of being surrounded.

At this point it does not matter whether the U.S. Congress approves Biden’s request to send Ukraine $61 billion. Ukraine lacks the one thing it needs to remain a viable threat on the front — trained, experienced troops.

‘Tragic’: World Champion Pole Vaulter Dies at Age 29

A former world champion pole vaulter died Thursday at age 29.

Shawn Barber, a three-time NCAA champion with the University of Akron in Ohio, died “from medical complications,” the school’s Department of Athletics said in a news release Thursday.

The athlete’s specific cause of death was not released, but the university said he “had fallen ill and had been experiencing poor health for some time.”

The release described Barber, who became the Zips’ first male individual national champion in 2014, as a “well-liked teammate and competitor.”

His agent, Paul Doyle, confirmed that he died at his home in Kingwood, Texas, according to The Associated Press.

“More than just an incredible athlete, Shawn was such a good-hearted person that always put others ahead of himself,” Doyle told the AP.

“It’s tragic to lose such a good person at such a young age,” he said.

Doyle Management posted about the loss on Instagram, calling Barber a “friend that will never be forgotten.”

“He will be greatly missed,” it said.

Barber, who had dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada, set an NCAA championship meet record with a jump of 19-4.75 in the 2015 indoor championships, besting the mark of 19-2.25 set by Jacob Davis of the University of Texas in 1999, according to the University of Arkon news release.

He brought home a gold medal from the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and represented Canada in the 2016 Olympics, finishing 10th.

Barber’s best vault was 19-8¼ on Jan. 15, 2016, which is still the Canadian record.

His final competition was in January 2020 in Germany.

Barber is survived by his mother, Ann; his father, George; and his brother, David, the news release said.

Russia And Iran Agree To Sign A Bilateral Strategic Pact …Plus, The Friday Roundtable With The Judge

A significant development this week with respect to Iran — Russia has agreed to enter into a bilateral strategic pact with Iran. Thanks to M.K. Bhadrakumar for pointing this out in his Consortium News article, Decoding Iran’s Missile & Drone Strikes.

Iran has been a target of U.S. and Israeli intelligence operations for several decades. These efforts appear to have accelerated over the last ten years because of shared Israeli and U.S. fears that Iran was edging towards becoming a nuclear power. As I noted in my recent piece — What’s Good for the Goose Is Good for the Gander, Iran Plays the Terrorist Card — the U.S. has been quite public about its support for the MEK, which has carried out terrorist attacks inside Iran. There also are reports that Baluchis, the tribes that inhabit regions along the borders of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, have carried out terrorist strikes in Iran as well. I also noted in my piece that the CIA has had contacts with the Baluchis going back to at least 1979 and that it is not wild speculation to believe that the CIA may have provided training and/or assistance to the Baluchi operatives that hit Iran.

As a result of these developments, Bhadrakumar notes that:

Tehran is cognisant of the urgent necessity to carve out strategic depth before the wolves close in. It has been pressing Moscow to expedite a bilateral strategic pact but Russians, unsurprisingly, took time over it.

One key agenda item during President Ebrahim Raisi’s “working visit” to Moscow on Dec. 7 to meet with President Vladimir Putin was finalising the pact.

On Monday, finally, the Russian Defence Ministry disclosed in a rare statement that Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu had called his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani to convey that Moscow has agreed to sign the pact. The MoD statement stated:

Both sides stressed their commitment to the fundamental principles of the Russian-Iranian relations, including unconditional respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which will be confirmed in the major intergovernmental treaty between Russia and Iran as this document is being finalised already.”

This is huge. It means that Israel and the United States will face the risk of going to war with Moscow if either openly launch a military attack on Iran. This puts a new arrow in Iran’s quiver. Iran already has an array of ballistic missiles — non-nuclear — that can strike Israel and many U.S. military bases in the region. In addition, Iran has been conducting joint military exercises with Russia and China for the last four years. Taken together, these are consequential factors that Western military planners cannot ignore.

Iran ain’t Yemen. It has a modern military — army, air force and navy — and a robust air defense system, power ballistic missiles, advanced drones and a sophisticated cyber attack capability. If Israel or the United States launches a conventional military attack on Iran, the Mullahs will answer in kind. At that point we are talking a major regional war with the potential to escalate to a global affair.

I hope that Lloyd Austin, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and CJCS General Charlie Brown understand this. If they do, they will resist strongly any push from the Biden White House to strike Iran. If they do not, then the United States will make a fatal mistake that will jeopardize the safety and security of the American people.

Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 Catches Fire Mid-Air After Departing From Miami (VIDEO)

An Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 cargo plane caught fire in mid-air shortly after leaving Miami International Airport on Thursday.

Shortly after departing from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Atlas Air experienced a fire on one of its engines, forcing it to return and execute an emergency landing at Miami International Airport.

NBC 6 News obtained the Mayday call to air traffic control.

In the voice recordings, the pilot told air traffic control,  “Mayday, mayday…We have an engine fire.

The pilot continued,  “Request access back to the airport. No, we’ll go ahead and land. We have five souls onboard.”

A resident in Miami was able to record the moment the engine malfunctioned.

WATCH:

Per Newsweek:

A video on social media shows flames apparently coming from a Boeing plane shortly after takeoff.

The brief clip, captured by someone on the ground, shows flames trailing an Atlas Air flight minutes after it took off from Miami International Airport on Thursday night. The aircraft was a Boeing 747-8, according to FlightAware.

A Miami airport spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek that the cargo flight had landed safely at Miami airport just after 11 p.m.

An Atlas Air spokesperson said the aircraft had experienced an engine malfunction. “The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to [Miami International Airport],” the company said in a statement to Reuters.

Earlier in January, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX door plug blew out in mid-air, which caused many to point to Boeing’s DEI policies as the root cause of Boeing’s recent mishaps.

The Thomas Crown Affair Houthi Style

Please do not interpret this piece as making light of the U.S. and U.K. bombing of the Houthis in Yemen. There are people dying on the ground and that is no laughing matter. The reason for my title is that the U.S. and U.K are acting like the clumsy cops chasing Pierce Brosnan in the movie, The Thomas Crown Affair. Watch the following snippet from the movie and I think you’ll grasp my point:

Yep. The Houthis are moving their missiles and drones around in the same fashion that all of the Bowler hatted, wool-coat wearing, Pierce Brosnan look-alikes are doing as they run around the museum exchanging fake briefcases. In the same fashion that the police were frustrated in trying to arrest Brosnan and prevent the theft of a piece of art, the U.S. and U.K. keep launching airstrikes at sites where they think the mobile missile platforms are and still cannot stop Yemen from launching more missiles. Tiny Yemen is frustrating the world’s “greatest” military power in the world.

This would be hilarious were it not for the fact the U.S. and U.K are killing people with no certainty that they are responsible for the actual launch of missiles. The Western world is striving to ignore the purpose behind the Houthi shutdown of the Red Sea — i.e., force Israel to cease killing Palestinians in Gaza. While most world leaders ignore this fact, the Houthi actions are being celebrated by street Arabs and Muslims. In other words, a vast sea of humanity. This is a true David vs. Goliath struggle.

Yemen, based on videos of previous military parades, has thousands of missiles and drones. The International Institute for Security Studies reports:

In parades in 2022 and 2023, the Houthis unveiled additional ASCMs, including what appeared to be two anti-ship versions of the Iranian Quds/351 LACM. One version is allegedly equipped with a radar-homing seeker (Sayyad), and the other has an electro-optical/infrared seeker (Quds Z-0). Based on the range of the original Quds and on Houthi statements, both systems could have a range of at least 800 km.

The parades also featured a variety of anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) and guided rockets employing Iranian infrared or imaging infrared seeker technology. The 450 km-range Asef appears to be a rebranded ASBM version of Iran’s Fateh 313 missile, while the Tankil represents a previously unseen anti-ship version of the IRGC-developed 500 km-range Zohayr. The two designs constitute the heaviest Houthi anti-ship missiles, both with warheads of more than 300 kilograms, and are of Iranian origin.

Three smaller ASBMs – the 140 km-range Faleq, the Mayun and the Bahr al-Ahmar – strongly resemble Iranian design philosophy and seeker technology but do not precisely match known Iranian systems. They could either be Iranian systems not observed before and smuggled to Yemen, or Houthi-produced rockets combined using Iranian guidance kits, not unlike developments made by another Iran proxy, the Lebanese Hizbullah, in its precision-guided surface-to-surface missile programme. Finally, the Houthis have presented an S-75 (SA-2) surface-to-air missile, likely from pre-war Yemeni army stocks, modified for an anti-ship role using an Iranian guidance kit.

This means the United States and the United Kingdom will be embroiled in a lengthy, costly campaign with no guarantee of success. Fear of depleting U.S. Naval supplies of air defense missiles is the reason the U.S. is relying on fixed-wing aircraft to deliver bombs. The U.S. is being very sparing about using Tomahawk cruise missiles because the inventory is being rapidly depleted:

Raytheon builds Tomahawks at a facility in Arizona. Each missile costs the Navy more than $1 million. In 2020 the Navy has around 4,000 Tomahawks. But that number is set to fall as the fleet upgrades some missiles and disposes of others.

While this means Raytheon will profit from new USG contracts to build more Tomahawks until an alternative becomes available, the U.S. cannot produce enough cruise missiles to sustain a rate of fire that uses up 20 missiles a week. DOD also has to keep a reserve for contingencies in Iran and China. The United States is like the Big Bad Wolf huffing and puffing at the brick house. For all of its bluster it cannot close the deal and shutdown Yemen.

Christian Persecution Surging, Worst Offender Kills Believers ‘Outright’

‘Most of us can’t imagine what it’s like to live in fear for our very lives because of our faith’

Open Doors US, working under its worldwide name, Open Doors International, to provide food, medicine, trauma care, legal help, safe housing and spiritual support for Christians, has released its newest World Watch List of persecution of Christians.

And it stunningly reveals that some five million Christians were added to the list of those facing “high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith” in just the last year.

A year ago that total was 360 million; now it’s 365 million.

“This means that 1 in 7 Christians experience pressure or violence because of their faith in Jesus,” the report said.

At No. 1 among the worst offenders is North Korea, where the Kim dynasty “continues to crush any perceived threat to its authority, including religious belief. If they aren’t executed outright, Christians discovered in North Korea risk imprisonment in North Korea’s infamous network of labor camps,” the report said.

And sub-Saharan Africa remains the most violent place in the world for Christians.

“Faith-related deaths in sub-Saharan Africa far outstripped those of any other region in the annual report. This has been a trend for several years. More than 82% of Christians killed because of their faith were in Nigeria (ranked No. 6 on the 2024 World Watch List), according to Open Doors’ World Watch List research,” the report said.

Ryan Brown, CEO, said, “It’s heartbreaking to hear about what our brothers and sisters in Christ are experiencing in Nigeria and other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. Most of us can’t imagine what it’s like to live in fear for our very lives because of our faith in Christ, but what a testimony these faithful believers are to the rest of us. We must continue to remember them in prayer as well as emulate their faithfulness in our own contexts.”

He continued, “As Christian persecution rises to the most significant levels in history, there’s an opportunity for us as believers to come alongside and support our brothers and sisters in Christ as they are enduring persecution for the sake of the Gospel. There is no better reminder than the annual release of the World Watch List that we need to stay informed about and in prayer for our persecuted family members throughout the world.”

Another region most active in the war against Christians is India.

“Ethnoreligious violence in Manipur States left hundreds of Christians dead and thousands displaced, and hundreds of other Christians in Chhattisgarh State were told to either renounce their faith or leave their homes.”

China doesn’t escape criticism, either.

There, an “alarming spike in the number of churches and Christian properties that were attacked or closed down” was documented.

The report documented:
