Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is scheduled to headline a pro police rally at the Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio Saturday morning. The rally is being held the day after the funeral for 16-year-old black female Ma’Khia Bryant who was shot and killed by a Columbus police officer last week as she tried to stab another black female to death.
RSBN will be live streaming the rally set to run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EDT.
The rally is being organized by a group called Ohio Gun Owners and will also feature Josh Mandel, a former state treasurer (2011-2019) and current candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Sen. Rob Portman. Former Ohio state legislator Ron Hood (R) is also scheduled to speak. The rally is open to the public but will be held in a fenced area on the West Lawn of the Statehouse and requires registration to attend, according to the Columbus Dispatch (excerpt):
“I think it’s high time (that we let) the law enforcement community know that the regular, law-abiding community has their backs, we definitely support them,” said Chris Dorr, executive director of the group. “We didn’t want them to be forgotten, so it’s a good time to throw a rally in support of them.”
In addition to Mandel, an array of former and current lawmakers have been invited to speak. Ohio Gun Owners noted in its announcement that tickets to the event are free but registration is required.
The West Lawn area will be fenced. “We want it to be a safe and family friendly environment,” Dorr said. “Some people are more than happy to get violent today if they have a disagreement with a certain world view or political ideology, so we’re going to have it fenced off and make sure it’s a good, safe, friendly event for everybody.”
In a statement announcing her appearance at the rally, Greene praised the officer identified by Columbus Police as the one who stopped Ma’Khia Bryant from stabbing another girl, “I have been invited to speak at the #BackTheBlue & Freedom Rally at the Ohio State House this Saturday in Columbus. As we all saw on video, Officer Reardon saved the young woman’s life and should be treated like a hero. See y’all there!”

WBNS-TV reported on the funeral plans for Bryant (excerpt):
The funeral for 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant is scheduled for Friday, according to Bishop Timothy Clarke, the senior pastor at the First Church of God.
Clarke said the viewing and funeral will take place at the church on Refugee Road in Columbus.
Additional details about the funeral, including if it will be open to the public, are still being finalized.
The Dispatch confirmed the details: “The funeral service for Ma’Khia Bryant will be Friday at the First Church of God “The City,” 3480 Refugee Road on the Southeast Side. The viewing will be at noon and service at 1 p.m., Jerry Ross, a spokesman for Paula Bryant, Ma’Khia’s mother, said Tuesday.”
Columbus has been the scene of protests and riots by Antifa and Black Lives Matter over the course of the past year, however not on the scale of Portland and Seattle.
