AMAZING STORY: Legendary Coach Bob Stoops Steps In to Lead Oklahoma in Alamo Bowl – Shares Moment after Son Drake Scores TD

A special father – son moment.

MSN reports:

After retiring from coaching college football between the 2016 and 2017 seasons, legendary Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops rejoined the Sooners as the team’s interim leader, following Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC and before former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables takes over.

One of the best parts of Stoops’ return was seeing him get to coach his son, Drake, a junior wide receiver for Oklahoma who joined the team in 2018, two seasons after his father retired. And the pair shared a special moment together after a second-quarter touchdown on the way to the No. 16 Sooners’ victory over No. 14 Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on Wednesday night.

Against the Ducks, Drake had one reception for just six yards, but it was a good one. On 3rd-and-goal still early in the second quarter, Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams found Drake going one-on-one to his left in the end zone, and the wide receiver jumped up for the Sooners’ second touchdown of the game, giving them a 16-3 lead with the extra point.

This was a special moment for the father and son.

Stoops Sr. began his college football career at the University of Iowa where he made first-team All-Big Ten as a defensive back.  He stuck around under legendary coach Hayden Fry and began his coaching career as an assistant graduate student on a voluntary basis at Iowa.  He eventually was given the head coaching job at the University of Oklahoma where he won a national championship.

Stoops was the winningest coach in Oklahoma history and took his teams to the BCS championships four times.  He stepped in as head coach in November on an interim basis for this one game only.  His reward was a win and being a part of his son’s TD catch.
