At this point, it seems unlikely anyone’s minds will change about their presidential candidate of choice. It seems like everyone knows the David Sedaris take on undecided voters, and I don’t believe this last dash is even about them. These final days of the Biden-Harris campaign are about motivating voters to go to the polls in the first place. To convince them that they must do their part to help rid this country of the worst president it’s ever seen.
Well, today was one heck of a day for motivational ads, and they couldn’t be more different, despite their shared goal: getting people to care enough to vote.
First, a glorious tribute to Joe Biden’s beloved hometown of Scranton, and to all the Joes (and Joannas) out there from the Scrantons out there, courtesy of Bruce Springsteen. And Springsteen didn’t just grant permission to use one of his most-loved songs—Born in the USA’s ”My Hometown”—no, The Boss narrated the spot.
In 60 seconds, this Midwestern gal was pulled all the way in. I saw my hometown. I saw my friends and I saw my family. I saw myself, and I saw my hope for everyone in this country as we face the worst times of our lives.
And now for something completely different.
Brayden Harrington is a member of Biden’s stutter club. Biden connects with stutterers across the country, and always makes time for them. It’s my absolute favorite thing about him on the personal front. It’s as Biden-specific as the whole Amtrak thing, but it resonates with me more as a lifelong stutterer myself.
Braydon’s big debut came at the Democratic National Convention in August.
Now, Brayden’s helping his stutter buddy across the finish line. This one got me good. It’s our beautiful big blue tent. It’s a highlight reel of the America I want for us, and oh dammit, is someone cutting onions in here?
Never underestimate an American, indeed.
